Cape Verde-San
Vincente Island
Not to be outdone is San Vincente
Island. The town of Mindelo has has a beautiful
bay that is the eroded caldera of an ancient volcano.
Mindelo is known for its music, but we found all
of Cape Verde was full of music.
|

We took a ferry between San Vincente and Santo Antao
islands. This is a sentinel rock in the bay.

We took a hike up Mount Verde. Again, stone walls...
|

and stone homes -- some abandoned and some in use
-- and terraced farming everywhere possible.
|

Part way up the mountain is a home. In the background
you see all of the antennas on top of the mountain.
|

A view over Mindelo from the top of Mt. Verde.

Yes, sunset was beautiful!

These people love to celebrate New Year's Eve! It's
hard to tell in this picture, but there is a HUGE
crowd yelling, cars and trucks going up and down
the street honking horns, smoke bombs, flares, a
few attempts at fireworks, and people just celebrating!
