Vincente Island
Not to be outdone is San Vincente
Island. The town of Mindelo has has a beautiful
bay that is the eroded caldera of an ancient volcano.
Mindelo is known for its music, but we found all
of Cape Verde was full of music.

We took a ferry between San Vincente and Santo Antao
islands. This is a sentinel rock in the bay. |

We took a hike up Mount Verde. Again, stone walls... |
and stone homes -- some abandoned and some in use
-- and terraced farming everywhere possible. |
Part way up the mountain is a home. In the background
you see all of the antennas on top of the mountain. |

These people love to celebrate New Year's Eve! It's
hard to tell in this picture, but there is a HUGE
crowd yelling, cars and trucks going up and down
the street honking horns, smoke bombs, flares, a
few attempts at fireworks, and people just celebrating! |
